Abstract :
According to the slow speed of recognition, huge volume and other problems in the traditional character recognition system, we design an embedded character recognition system based on FPGA using DE2 development platform from Altera Company. This system takes the Programmable Logic Device FPGA embedded Nios II soft core as the controller, with software and hardware cooperatively achieving functions such as: image acquisition, storage, pretreatment, recognition and so on. The experimental results show that our recognition system runs steadily with good real-time, clear collection of image and the fast recognition speed, which is suitable for embedding into the office automation equipment to realize the function of portable character recognition.
