Abstract
An anisotropic shock filter is designed for edge-preserving enhancement of flow patterns in grayscale and color images. Edges are sharpened in the direction of the principal eigenvector of the structure tensor and gaps in lines are closed. The filter is applied to non-photorealistic enhancement of painting strokes and transforming photographs to oil-painting like images with active generation of flow patterns.
