Abstract
The present work reports the results of a case study realized by processing and interpreting the data obtained in a full-scale experiment performed at the City Hospital in Turceni, Gorj County (Romania). As its title itself shows, the paper presents a numerical simulation of the airflow pattern in a hospital room whether or not a portable air conditioner is in use within it. The main purpose of the research was finding the way that the initial airflow pattern obtained without using the portable air conditioner changes as a result of using it. In fact, the idea was to find out which of the three beds is the most reliable to host a patient who accidentally has caught a flu during his/her hospitalization - possibly from a visitor, in order for him/her to keep the location without threatening the health of the other two patients (assuming that the room is dedicated to other treatments than the ones for transmissible respiratory diseases, e.g. recovery from surgery).
