Abstract :
This paper describes salient features of the Madison Gas and Electric Company (MGE) energy management system (EMS) which became fully operational in late 1989. The use and utility of the various EMS capabilities are also discussed. The following EMS features are discussed: historical SCADA data recording and reconstruction; alarm subsystem; report generator with relational database; critical task monitor; integrated source library and automated procedures to build all EMS applications from the source library; economic dispatch of multiply-fueled common steam header generators and of jointly-owned units; state estimation, including dynamically updated load model contingency analysis, contingency planning, and preventive actions; dispatcher training simulator; future changes and additions
