Abstract :
The US Air Force Academy´s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DFCE) and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) are committed to inspiring the potential of the nation´s youth with the leadership skills, motivation, and technical competence to be future leaders to the Nation. To help achieve this, DFCE and SAME jointly sponsored a prototype Engineering and Construction Camp at the USAF Academy in the summer of 2000. The intent of this collaborative effort was to provide opportunities for SAME Posts to engage in long-term mentorship with high school students and to interest them in the engineering profession through hands-on activities in engineering, construction, team building, and learning under the mentorship of SAME officers and USAF Academy cadets. The response to the one-week camp was overwhelmingly positive and the camp was offered for a second time during July 2001
