Abstract :
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is a connection-oriented technology. Due to this, one of the challenges in mobile wireless ATM (WATM) systems is the location management and handoff management of mobile terminal (MT). This paper proposes a new location management and handoff control scheme for WATM networks. A simulator on a Linux platform using C language is developed and a test bed is designed to check the performance of existing as well as the proposed protocol. The performance of both the protocols are analyzed and it is observed that the call setup time required by the proposed protocol is less as compared to the existing one. It is also observed that the handoff time required by a proposed protocol is also less. The other parameter examined is the sender and receiver cell loss at access point (AP), which is also less for a proposed protocol.
