Abstract :
Successful design of optics for high-concentration photovoltaics strikes a balance between cost, efficiency, manufacturing tolerances, tracking error sensitivity, thermal load, and the durability of optical materials. The Amonix optical system, composed of a Fresnel lens and a proprietary secondary optical element, leads to a highly efficient, cost effective solar power generator. Improvements in the optics design have contributed to more than 10% increase in rated power in the last year. In order to maintain the upward trend in power and energy, Amonix is exploring trade-offs in concentration, alternative optical designs and materials, and improved thermal management. Modeling and measurement of candidate optical designs will be presented.
