Abstract
The St. Boniface General Hospital Financial Electronic Reporting system is aimed at centralizing information and securing data. Hundreds of financial reports are submitted monthly to a centralized electronic reporting server, which examines, collates and converts each report into a separate portable document format (PDF) file. The file is then saved to a network database, which is updated and sorted regarding the new submissions. This system leverages a Web based front end as a portal for users to connect to. They are authenticated to a centralized directory service via secure LDAP (LDAPS). Every step of the authentication is protected from snooping by encryption using SSL and LDAPS Once authenticated to the directory service, a database back-end maintains the user access control lists, which control the reports the user can view online. The system saves the hospital from printing tens of thousands of pages monthly, and distribution is performed in seconds, rather than days. Sensitive financial information is secured Users can access their reports with a single logon and information is available in a printable, searchable format that is easy to access.
