Abstract :
Summary form only given. The authors have developed a flashlamp-pumped laser, emitting around 1.3 /spl mu/m and have tested several Nd-doped crystals. They began with Nd:YAG and Nd:KGW rods and obtained rather good but not sufficient efficiencies. They then turned to the Nd:YAP crystal which presents a better gain cross-section at 1.34 /spl mu/m than Nd:YAG and is used successfully in a commercial laser for dentistry.
