Abstract
The problem of partitioning mechanical assembly processes to increase throughput and reduce costs is discussed. A partitioning model which takes into account constraints such as precedence relations while maximizing the efficiency or performance is described. A hierarchical portioning method, where several different criteria are used in the partitioning process, is also discussed
