Abstract :
This paper introduces a physical phase variable model of PM synchronous machines as well as its practical implementation in Simulink. The rotor position dependence of stator winding inductances is calculated by energy perturbation method using nonlinear transient FE solutions. The variation of the flux linkage contributed by permanent magnets is obtained from nonlinear transient FE analysis as well. The cogging torque is evaluated and taken into account. An adjustable inductance component is constructed for building such a physical phase variable model in Simulink. The performance of the physical phase variable model is compared with the results from the dq-model and the full FE model of machines. The physical phase variable model provides the same simulation results compared with the FE model at much faster simulation speed. Implementation results of integrated drive simulation examples using the physical phase variable model are presented.
