Abstract
HVDC converter station technology has developed rapidly to satisfy increasing requirements since the early 1980s, but there has not been any dramatic changes since thyristor valves were introduced in the mid 1970s. This paper describes some more recent and expected future development that will substantially change and simplify future converter stations. These developments include HVDC thyristor valves, active DC filters, AC filters, current measurement, control and protection equipment, HVDC simulators, and layout and compacting
