Abstract :
An experimental study on mutual coupling compensation in DOA estimation using a compact array has been presented. A seven-monopole antenna array was constructed and used to perform the DOA estimation with the MUSIC algorithm. The mutual coupling effects were compensated using the measured receiving mutual impedances and the measured conventional mutual impedances respectively. Results on one- and two-source experiments were obtained. It was shown that the performance of DOA estimation in the presence of mutual coupling could be significantly improved when the mutual coupling effect was compensated by using the receiving mutual impedances.
