Abstract :
Summary form only given. Based on time resolved measurements and on the spectral dependence of the photocurrent in a laddertype PPP, a substituted PPP copolymer, and oligophenyls we investigate charge carrier generation, transport, and carrier recombination. The rather short lifetime of the charge carriers of 100 - 150 ps and the estimated mean free path give evidence that the transient current is dominated by intrachain transport. On the other hand crystallinity and interchain order influence strongly the carrier mobility. The intensity of the onset in the photocurrent action spectrum indicates the existence of highly mobile excitations around the band edge.
