Abstract :
With the development of human civilization, energy harvesting from different sustainable energy sources is getting more and more importance. Among various renewable energy resources, wind energy is one of most popular forms of energy. This source of energy can be a good prospect to meet power crisis for a developing country like Bangladesh. Since wind has a random characteristic nature, it is very important to assess the wind energy potential for Bangladesh. This paper represents wind resource assessment for five different coastal areas in Bangladesh. In order to assess the wind energy potential a widely used statistical tool has been chosen and it is known as Weibull Distribution Function. A relative comparison has been made for these sites in the view point of two important factors (shape factor, k and scale factor, c). Finally most potential site has been selected among the studied locations.
