Abstract
Future wireless access systems will have features and requirements that are quite distinct form current systems which are mostly designed for telephony. Such features include higher bandwidth, mixed, packet oriented and strongly asymmetric traffic patterns as well inhomogeneous network architectures. The question whether we are able to provide meaningful quality of service guarantees in the same way as it is done in wire-line networks at an affordable price remains open. We give an overview over some of the key problems and some the possible solutions for future wireless multimedia systems
