Abstract :
We have constructed an ultra-high vacuum system which provides two ways of spectroscopy for cold cathodes in adjustable triode configuration under high electric fields (<; 70 MV/m) and pulsed tunable laser illumination (3.5 ns, 10 Hz, 0.5-5.9 eV, <; 17 mJ). Sensitive direct spectroscopy with high resolution (<; 14 meV) of DC and laser-pulsed emission as well as photon energy dependent quantum efficiency measurements are possible. Here the performance of the system is demonstrated with exemplary results on DC field emission from a W tip and laser-pulsed photoemission PE from an S-doped GaP wafer.
