Abstract :
In this paper, we focus on the identification and characterization of various propagation mechanisms in close vicinity of a periodically structured building facade. The purpose is to quantitatively characterize the accuracy of ray tracing when the facade is approximated by some simpler geometry, such as a flat smooth surface. This quantitative characterization is very much needed because it is common in practical ray tracing software and is used to replace a building facade with a smooth surface. Our investigation would thus provide an indication of how much accuracy would be compromised in a ray tracing simulation when the complex building facade is approximated by a simpler structure.
