Abstract :
This paper presents two designs for an improved watchdog timer for the Motorola microcontroller MC68HC11. Both designs can detect failures that cause the timer not to time out as in conventional watchdog timers. In addition, they can detect program flow errors that cause the timer to time out too fast.
