Abstract :
High-sensitivity distributed temperature, strain, and birefringence sensors based on Brillouin dynamic grating (BDG) are demonstrated with the configurations of optical time domain analysis or reflectometry in polarization-maintaining fibers and elliptical-core two-mode fibers. The sensitivities to temperature and strain variations are several tens of times larger than those of ordinary Brillouin sensors.
