Abstract
In this paper we present a concise, tutorial introduction to the problem of discrete time quasi-sliding mode inventory management (control). First, we show how logistic periodic review supply systems can be modelled in the state space, and then we apply the proposed models to design sliding mode controllers for the systems. We discuss the sliding hyperplane selection, and its effect on the performance of the systems. Furthermore, we demonstrate advantageous properties of the non-switching type reaching law based controllers for this particular application.
