Abstract
A very simple, yet elegant method to increase the bandwidth of a resonant antenna using multiple tuned circuits has been proposed and successfully implemented by Wheeler. In the pesent work, a double-tuned matching network is proposed as an alternative to Wheeler´s method, which replaces one of the tuned circuits with a miniaturized λg/2 transmission line. This is done in order to achieve multiband matching performance, while reducing the dependence on lumped tuning elements. The double-tuned matching network is then applied to a circular monopole antenna, effectively demonstrating that a compact, wideband and highly efficient antenna can be created that can be operated in the continuous range of 2-7 GHz.
