Abstract
Recent developments in the analysis design and filter applications of the E-plane periodically loaded electromagnetic band gap ridge waveguide are presented. A generic fast and efficient formulation has been developed, based on a combination of the generalised transverse resonance technique, the mode matching method to obtain the generalised scattering matrix (GSM) of the unit cell and a mathematical formulation to obtain the dispersion properties of the infinite structure. Both real and imaginary parts of the propagation constant are derived and discussed. The theoretical results are validated by comparison with simulations of a finite structure and experimental results. The application of the proposed EBG waveguide in the suppression of the spurious passband of a conventional E- plane filter as well as reduction of the overall size is presented by experiment.
