Abstract :
Summary form only given. If a DC voltage is applied to a semiconductor superlattice, the arising current may oscillate (Bloch oscillations). Here we report on an optical analog to these Bloch oscillations that reveals special features of the transition from a quasi-continuous model to effects owing to the very discreteness. We consider an array of nearest-neighbor coupled waveguides. In analogy to the DC voltage applied in semiconductor superlattices, the propagation constant of adjacent waveguides shall vary.
