High Loss Inductors for EMC applications in Pulse Circuits

Abstract :
Pulse circuits have their particular EMC issues. In many of these the discharge of capacitances, both intentional and unintentional, can result in very large voltages/and high energy dissipation occurring in closely located sensitive circuits. Issues of safety can also be involved. Frequently high power microwave tubes (> 1 MW RF output) require protection against very modest fault energy discharges and the ideas to be described would be most effective in this application. To deal with such problems techniques have been developed that design inductances with deliberately high values of series loss. Such inductances exhibit relatively high resistances to short pulses but low or insignificant resistance/reactance to the desired circuit function
