Abstract
This paper deals with the shielding effects due to the presence of nearby parallel conductors when illuminated by EMP. An asymmetrical bounded-wave EMP simulator with distributed terminators was constructed which has a uniform and precisely controlled environment. The single-, double- and triple-conductor configurations with varying termination impedances on the two sides were investigated. The measured current responses are in agreement with calculated values from Agrawal model. The induced current on one conductor of multi-conductor configuration has a markedly shielding effect by the presence of nearby loaded conductors, especially the ground loaded parallel conductor, which was verified by experimental approach under this newly fabricated EMP simulator
