Abstract
A plot of land was allocated for the building of recreational facilities. However, the site is located next to a HF transmission station, thus raising concerns of radiation hazards to personnel at the site. Initial electric field measurements concluded that some parts of the land experienced electric field levels that exceeded the maximum safety exposure level (28V/m) recommended by the ICNIRP standard. A solution was proposed to build a metallic fence at a designated location to shield the EM field. Simulation and design of the fence were carried out using the FEKO software. Following the fence installation, measurements were re-conducted and it was verified that the electric field levels were reduced to within the recommended safety level specified in the ICNIRP
