Abstract
We have tried to develop a novel, room temperature grown, carbon based multilayered electron emitter, suitable for most vacuum microelectronic applications. The heterostructured cathode consists of a layer of nanoseeded diamond (field enhancer), an over coat of a room temperature grown nanocluster carbon (highly sp/sup 2/ bonded electron emitter or electron source) and a final thin overlayer of tetrahedral amorphous carbon.
