Abstract
This paper presents a simple analysis for analyzing the power handling capability of microwave resonators and filters. The method relates the resonator stored energy obtained by circuit theory to that obtained by HFSS simulations. The method is used to investigate the power handing capability of conventional combline resonators as well as non-traditional coaxial resonator configurations. A novel resonator configuration is proposed, offering a 15% improvement in power handling capability in comparison with traditional combline resonators. Simulation and measured results are given for a 4-pole filter employing the proposed resonator.
