The evolution of Maxwell´s equations through a brief critical examination of the history and background of the man and his times

Early in March of 2013, on the evening of the 7th to be exact, several EMC-S Board members had gathered in the hotel tavern after the Board meeting that day, sharing some adult beverages and exchanging small talk. Janet O´Neil mentioned that a professor colleague of hers at UCLA had indicated that 2014 would signal the 150th anniversary of Maxwell´s Equations. We discussed this a bit, and the idea of perhaps writing an article for the EMC-S magazine got bounced around a little. I had some familiarity with the history, and volunteered to author the work.
