Abstract :
This paper both introduces the basic connect of digital elevator modal and analyzes the playground that DEM can play in GIS field. We implement a virtual 3D terrain rendering in a personal computer by using DEM data. When rendering the terrain, a quadtree-based optimization algorithm is used for generating continuous levels of a given terrain in real time. Both rendering quality and rendering speed is guaranteed. Besides, this paper also does some effort on the output quality and some basic function in a GIS system
