Abstract :
The paper deals with the optimal compensation of distribution networks, approached and solved as a nonlinear optimisation problem. The first part presents the problem statement and the calculation of the power flow for a radial distribution network under certain operating conditions. The state variables are calculated by solving a 3n order, nonlinear equation system, using a Newton type method, where n is the number of the network´s sections. The presented example emphasises the method´s mechanism and its advantages
