Abstract
Series connected battery cells can use balancing circuits so that each individual cell has the same state of charge (SOC) as the others. In this paper series-loaded resonant (SLR) converters are used to trickle charge individual cells to accomplish this charge equalization goal and increase the reliability of the battery pack. Analytical equations are used to support the design of an SLR converter laboratory prototype. Additionally a physics based model implemented in Matlab/Simulink predicts the hardware behavior. Both analytical solutions and simulations are validated by laboratory experiments.
