Abstract :
An approach to compression of panoramic images is presented. Individual panoramic images can be efficiently compressed with application of decorrelating transforms, such as block based DCT, or wavelet transform, then coefficients quantization, and VL coding, as in JPEG 2000 standard. Further compression of the sequence of images is possible, if there is a significant correlation between images due to the existence of overlapping areas. Mosaic-based panoramic image sequence codec is proposed for archiving or transmission purposes
