  • Abstract
Since the advent of microstrip antennas, there has been tremendous research work for microstrip antennas and arrays leading to a wide spectrum of communication applications. The issue of miniaturization of microstrip antennas to save space on mobile handsets. PC cards, and wireless Personal Digital Assistants, are of current research interest. One of the ways to achieve a miniaturized antenna is by creating slots of suitable length and width on microstrip substrates of finite ground plane size. In many wireless communication applications, polarization diversity reception is preferred for multipath environments. The other features for this type of polarization diversity antenna are almost omnidirectional patterns, good impedance match, and antenna switching mechanism, if more than one radiating elements are used. The specific band of interest covers one of the ISM-band frequencies (2.40 to 2.50 GHz). The parametric results for a single slot antenna, and a complementary dual slot antenna configuration showing polarization diversity radiation characteristics are presented. The simulations were carried out using method of moments (MoM) software Ensemble 5.1.
