Abstract :
The authors report preliminary results of measurements of the radiation hardness of the plastic scintillating fiber Kuraray SCSF-81 against irradiation with fast neutrons and 60Co γ-rays at neutron fluences from 1×1011 to 5×1013 n/cm2 and integrated γ-ray doses from 80 to 105 Gy. Deterioration of light transmittance and light emittance was observed at a neutron fluence of about 1012 n/cm2 and an integrated dose of about 103 Gy for neutron and γ-ray irradiation. It is found that the deterioration stops as the neutron fluence or the γ-ray dose increases, and the long component of the attenuation length deteriorates a little more slowly than the short one
