Abstract :
Summary form only given. The surface impedance of a travelling SW (sheath wave) antenna immersed in a magnetoactive plasma has been calculated. Its dependence on the waveguide structure parameters such as plasma density, external magnetic field H/sub o/ electron collisional frequency values, sheath region width, and conductivity of the metal surface has been studied. The calculations have been carried out in a quasiplane approximation when the antenna radius greatly exceeds the SW skin depth. The surface impedance is calculated in two cases, namely, when SWs propagate along (Z/sub /spl par) and across (Z/sub /spl perp) the external magnetic field. The relation between Z/sub /spl par and Z/sub /spl perp is obtained. A comparison of the dispersion properties of the SW propagating along H/sub o/ with experimental results has also carried out. The theoretical results are shown to agree satisfactorily with the experimental results.
