Abstract :
Qualitativeness of software is one of major problems for establishing its scientific measurement environment in which engineers can measure their products objectively and in an engineering way. To deal with the qualitativeness, automated tools are essential that integrate systems´ expertise represented in the forms of software components. Therefore, after introducing our on-going researches to build a scientific measurement environment of database management systems, we present knowledge-based software components and their application to qualitative measurement. We also present the way to model the qualitative states of the components, together with four heuristics for selection of meaningful landmark values
