Abstract :
The method of moments (MoM) for solving surface integral equations of radiation and scattering is one of the most widely used numerical methods in computational electromagnetics. We develop an error estimate for the scattering amplitude computed by the method of moments for a 2D conesphere. A current challenge in error analysis is the development of error estimates for derived quantities such as scattering amplitudes and radar cross section (RCS). Techniques for estimating scattering amplitude RCS errors have been developed for certain scatterers, including our method for a flat plate neglecting edge effects (see Warnick, K.F. and Chew, W.C., "Fast and Efficient Algorithms in Computational Electromagnetics", p.203-82, Artech House, 2001). We extend that approach for the case of a flat PEC strip to a 2D conesphere, which includes both a smooth cylindrical region and a wedge tip. We approximate the error for the conesphere by considering a circular cylinder and a wedge separately and superposing the two error estimates.
