Abstract :
Programmable power sources have become important tools in the design phase of electrical products, and are increasingly found in manufacturing test as well. Modern power sources with built-in arbitrary waveform and transient capability are also suitable for immunity and emissions tests for CE marking to European (EN), Japanese (JIC) and Korean and Chinese norms. The integrated power analysis and signal digitizer reduce the cost for (pre) compliance testing instruments by as much as 50%. Modern power source designs employ high frequency inverter techniques, with switching frequencies in excess of 200 kHz for some types, and offer superb flexibility and programming capabilities. In particular the modern switch mode designs have much higher efficiencies compared to older linear designs. In today´s world of high energy prices, the energy cost savings in applications can be substantial.
