Abstract :
At the end of 2000, the Institute of Ocean Technology (IOT) established an innovative CTD calibration laboratory. This article introduces the temperature, conductivity and pressure calibration standards, and equipment developed by IOT. The uncertainty of the temperature standard reaches 0.0005 degC. The calibration seawater tank with about 1000 litres volume has the temperature stability of 0.00015 degC and maximum temperature gradient of 0.00026 degC. Because of these characteristics, the tank can simulate the natural ocean. The CTD calibration facility of the laboratory can meet the requirement of calibrating the CTD profilers with the specification produced by WOCE Hydrographic Program Office. This laboratory includes two CTD sensor dynamic calibration apparatuses, both developed in China. One apparatus is for measuring the time constants of CTD sensors; the other one is for testing the pressure effect on temperature and conductivity sensors. The methods and results of IOT calibrating CTD profilers and sensors are also given
