Abstract :
This study was undertaken to assess the effects of vigilance state on measures of the paired-pulse response recorded in the dentate granule cell layer of the hippocampal formation in freely moving rats. Paired-pulse stimulation of the medial perforant pathway was used to construct a paired-pulse index (PPI) for 15-, 30- and 90-day old animals during the vigilance states of quiet waking, slow-wave sleep, and rapid eye movement sleep. Results indicate that at each age there is no significant difference in PPI values across the range of interpulse intervals selected
