Abstract :
Passive optical networks: have shown to be much more attractive than access networks. In this paper, we study the problem of transmitting multimedia video traffic on a passive wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical network served as an access network. We explore the possibility of providing an integrated service directly at the WDM optical layer while taking into consideration the unique QoS requirement from multimedia video traffic stream. We introduce a novel multimedia video traffic scheduling framework to use in a passive optical access network. The results show that the proposed mechanism is capable of providing QoS guarantee for MPEG video applications while achieving high overall throughput
