Abstract :
When injecting an external signal into the optical amplifier of an integrated laser-amplifier photonic circuit, the feedback from the laser may result in a strong non-linearity that can be observed in the output power vs. input power for the signal. We briefly discuss the nature of this non-linearity. Several applications in optical signal processing (2R regeneration, wavelength conversion, etc.) is discussed in more detail.
