Abstract
A stability criterion for a system with varying load characteristics is defined and the mean first exit time of the dynamic system from its stability region is determined. The mean first exit time is one of the most important planning reliability indices for a large-scale power system which incorporates system behavior in fluctuating circumstances. Different design procedures are considered according to the dynamic performance of a given system, and the benefits of system interconnection are studied as an alternative to improve the system reliability. This technique does not set any restrictions on the system configuration, and can be implemented on a multidimensional dynamic system
