Abstract
A digital photosensor for multi-color imaging is presented. By modulating the electric field applied to the photo sensing region, the sensor reports light intensity at discrete wavelengths. It utilizes standard CMOS technology, integrating a spectrally-sensitive photodiode and a current-to-frequency analog-to-digital converter on the same die. A 0.35μm prototype demonstrates intensity measurement of 540nm (green) and 640nm (red) illumination with an optical sensitivity of 1μW/cm2/level and consumes 0.3mW from a 3.3V supply.
