Abstract
Given the twin bottlenecks of current IP transport, inadequate throughput and excessive power consumption, exploiting photonic technologies will be the best path to creating bandwidth abundant and energy efficient future networks. The large throughput optical cross-connect node and optical path tunneling functions are effectively attained with the introduction of higher order optical paths, wavebands. Recent advances in waveband technologies are demonstrated.
