Abstract
The development of a six pulse HVDC converter model for small signal stability investigations taking into account the discrete nature of converter operation is described. A novel multirate-sampling-based converter model is developed. A linearized, discrete-time, state space model for a single converter system is derived utilizing the linearized component models and identifying the interconnections between the different subsystems. The proposed model is validated through stability analysis of a sample single converter system in which the stability domains in the controller parameter plans are determined using eigenvalue analysis
