Abstract :
This paper presents a novel design of a compact varactor-tuned PIFA antenna for ISDB-T (terrestrial integrated services digital broadcasting) application. This design is based on capacitor loaded planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) structure, and its resonance frequency can be electrically controlled so that wideband operation is achieved. A tuning circuit which consists of a varactor diode is introduced to adjust the impedances to realize the required resonance frequency. The proposed antenna covers ISDB-T band (470MHz - 770MHz) and satisfied the specified gain requirement. This antenna is occupied in a total volume of 40mmX 24mmX1mm and can be easily placed into a portable device such as a GPS navigation system.
