Abstract
Abstract-there have been conflicting points of view on the motivations for knowledge sharing in IT contexts. This paper solves the conflict by means of distinguishing between the quality and quantity of knowledge sharing. An empirical investigation has been conducted in two patterns of knowledge sharing which are supported severally by the intranet and groupware. The conclusion suggests that the motivations for quality of knowledge sharing are achievement, challenge of work and responsibility; and the motivations for quantity of knowledge sharing are status, money and policy.
